Infrared VS. Steam Saunas
We are proud to offer both Infrared and Traditional Steam Saunas at relax: Float Spa!
Infrared saunas use infrared light to heat your body directly rather than warming the air around you. This type of sauna operates at lower temperatures (typically between 120°F and 150°F) with very low humidity, making it more comfortable for longer sessions. Infrared heat penetrates deeper into the skin and muscles, which can help with pain relief, muscle recovery, and detoxification.
Steam saunas, also known as traditional saunas, heat the air using steam. These saunas operate at higher temperatures (150°F to 200°F) with nearly 100% humidity, creating a warm, moist environment that promotes heavy sweating, skin hydration, and respiratory benefits. Steam saunas provide a more intense experience and are often favored for their classic, spa-like atmosphere.
The Infrared and Steam Saunas can be used by themselves, while the Steam Sauna can also be used as a part of our Contrast Therapy.
What Is Contrast Therapy?
Contrast therapy offers a range of physical and mental health benefits. One of the most well-known advantages is improved circulation, as the heat from the sauna causes blood vessels to dilate while the cold plunge tank causes them to constrict. This process aids in faster muscle recovery by flushing out metabolic waste like lactic acid and reducing inflammation and soreness, which is especially helpful after intense workouts. Contrast therapy is also well known for boosting immune function by stimulating white blood cell activity, making the body more resilient to illness.
On a mental and emotional level, the combination of heat and cold can significantly improve mental clarity and alertness, as the sudden temperature shifts activate the nervous system and release a surge of endorphins. The practice also promotes stress relief and relaxation, with the sauna calming the body and mind and the cold plunge invigorating and uplifting the mood. Finally, by helping to regulate the nervous system and body temperature, contrast therapy can contribute to better sleep quality, making it a holistic tool for overall recovery and wellness.
